There can be problems with a break in the weight curve, generally due to a food allergy (gluten, protein from cow’s milk) and also Anorexia Nervosa in teenage girls.
But the most frequent problem has to be obesity which currently affects more than 16% of children aged 5 to 12 years.
Obesity in children has very harmful consequences because it can cause long-term problems such as hypercholesterolemia, hypertension and even diabetes which are linked in adulthood to a 50 to 80% abnormally high death rate of mainly cardio-vascular origin. Children can also have orthopedic problems and social difficulties associated with their obesity.
