Why does your skin change?
The female hormones secreted during pregnancy modify sebum production:
- Thyroid hormones stimulate sweat secretion, promoting water loss
- Adrenal gland hormones lower the resistance of the skin.
This results in dehydration.
The effects of hormones are compounded by changes in blood circulation and the cutaneous microcirculation, which weaken the skin and make it more irritable.
