Protect your baby in winter

Relieving your baby’s common cold symptoms

If your baby has a cold, here a few simple things you can do to relieve the symptoms until the infection recedes:

Wash his or her nose with physiological serum 2 or 3 times a day, preferably before meals, afternoon naps and bed-time. Proceed as follows:
o Place baby on his back with his head to one side.
o Pour the serum into the top-side nostril.
o The serum comes out of the other nostril. Wipe his nose and repeat the operation in the other nostril.
o If you feel this to be necessary, finishing by drawing out the mucus with a nose pump.

• Have your baby drink regularly, especially if he is running a temperature; it is important to avoid any risk of dehydration. If you are breastfeeding, do so regularly.

• To help him breathe more easily, raise his head a little on his mattress by placing a little cushion at the top of the bed.

• Don’t be afraid to put him to bed as soon as he shows the first signs of tiredness.

All these actions are necessary but not always pleasant for baby. To help your baby feel relaxed and reassured, you can apply a balm to his chest with light massage movements. For instance, Mustela Bébé Soothing Comfort Balm moisturizing chest rub with purifying scents

Be careful to choose the right balm for your baby, i.e. terpene-free (camphor, menthol and eucalyptol), ingredients that are potentially toxic and banned in cosmetics for children under 3 years of age (AFSSAPS* recommendations).
