Skin irritations - Introduction
What are the causing factors?
What are the signs?
What are the general measures that should be followed?
What are the stages of skin repair?
What sort of care is needed?
A baby’s skin is more fragile and more vulnerable on account of its immaturity: it does not deliver any real barrier effect.
There are many different forms of exterior insult (thumb, teat, dampness of skin folds, rubbing…) and these may cause skin irritations that result in redness, dryness of the skin and feelings of discomfort associated with risks of infection.
The issue of irritated skin is frequent and recurring. In 57% of cases, skin irritation leads to consultations with pediatricians*.
*Triade epidemiological survey conducted in 2008 with 447 pediatricians in France involving 4,299 children.
