Skin irritations - Introduction
What are the causing factors?
What are the signs?
What are the general measures that should be followed?
What are the stages of skin repair?
What sort of care is needed?
For benign surface irritations with children, there are special care products that are applied locally and effectively relieve feelings of irritation while also promoting the skin repair process and reducing risks of infection.
They may contain active ingredients like trace elements, which play a role in the phenomena of tissue repair.
For instance, zinc and copper (Dalibour formula) are recognized for their action on skin repair. They also have a protective role to combat free radicals (elements which, in excessive quantities, can be harmful to cells). The addition of manganese, a unifying element for cellular cohesion with regenerating properties, helps to speed up skin repair. To these active ingredients, we can also add soothing, purifying, restructuring and repairing products.
The special case of intimate areas
The intimate area is very fragile, where cutaneous flora easily loses its state of balance. This sort of imbalance can cause irritations and even infections.
In children, little girls and boys, the imbalance of cutaneous flora has many causes: rubbing with nappies (for toddlers who are not yet clean), dampness around the area due to poor wiping, poor hygiene (especially when teaching babies how to use the pot), digestive, urinary and parasitic pathologies (oxyurids), the taking of antibiotics…
These irritations manifest themselves through feelings of itching and even burning and redness. They occur frequently in children, are hard to shake off and are often recurrent.
For day-to-day hygiene in the intimate area, prefer a cleansing product with a physiological pH, which gently cleanses and helps to preserve protective cutaneous flora.
In cases of irritation of the intimate areas, take the following precautions:
Do not:
• Apply antiseptic products
• Use fragrance or coloured or bubble shower gels
• Dress with under-garments made from synthetic materials
• Dress with tight trousers
Do:
• Prefer cotton underwear
• Use products with a physiological pH
• Teach children the right preventive course of action:
- drink regularly
- use the toilets when they feel the need
- take their time to urinate
- wipe themselves properly before and after (from the cleanest to the dirtiest area)
- wash themselves every day
If the irritation persists, consult your doctor.
