Children’s skin has a memory and the damage caused by the sun during childhood is irreversible and cumulative and is very often revealed in adulthood.
Immediate, painful sunburn is not the only consequence of excessive exposure to UV rays. Over the years, excessive sun exposure and repeated sunburn cause accelerated ageing of the skin, weaken the immune defences and, in certain cases, give rise to skin cancer and cataracts that may lead to blindness.
Thus, in terms of the skin, the sun can cause damage on the surface (sunburn, etc.) and deep down (impairment of the cells of the epidermis and the skin defence cells).
It is therefore important to limit exposure to the sun as much as possible and protect babies’ and children’s skin with high protection sun care with mineral or organo-mineral sunscreens specially designed for them. In addition, children do not all have the same type of skin so it is important to protect them with suitable products. For increasingly fragile skin (skin prone to atopic dermatitis or hypersensitivity) a special sun protection product should be used for skin prone to intolerances.
By protecting your child from the sun, you will considerably contribute to reducing the risks of him or her developing skin cancer during their adulthood.
