Why do you need specific skin care products?

What happens during your pregnancy?

What happens during your pregnancy?

Your skin is subject to intense mechanical tension, associated both with the volume of the uterus and weight gain. This distension is accentuated by hormonal upheavals that weaken your skin. In addition, oestrogens encourage fat storage by stimulating the activity of fat cells in the hypodermis (the adipocytes) that stock up on lipids. Finally, your skin becomes more sensitive, fragile and reactive.

And after giving birth?

Your skin may appear to be slacker and less toned, especially on the stomach, hips, thighs and breasts. In addition, your weight may take several months to return to normal with more stubborn areas on the thighs, hips and abdomen.

Your skin must therefore call on its elastic properties to return to normal. This will take more time if you are breastfeeding, as a return to your normal level of hormones will be delayed.

Don’t worry, fat storage during your pregnancy is a natural physiological phenomenon: its aim is to always have a store of food for the foetus.
