Sourcing
Responsible sourcing and procurement charter
At Mustela, we are committed to promoting responsible sourcing. Certain key natural ingredients in our ranges, such as avocado, come from sustainable sources selected by Laboratoires Expanscience. Some of our products are certified organic. Our ingredients are sourced in accordance with our responsible procurement charter and our raw materials specifications, which include environmental criteria.
Natural and organic ingredients
Since our founding, we have prioritized the finest ingredients from the plant kingdom, while ensuring the safety of our products through a rigorous formulation policy. Our ingredients are primarily natural or of natural origin. We exclude genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and ingredients derived from animals, with the exception of bee products. Some of our ranges are certified organic.
Combating waste
We are experts in plant extraction, and our processes are designed to utilize all parts of the plants we use. We upcycle avocados that would otherwise be discarded to create cosmetic active ingredients in products. This means every part of the avocado (from the pit to the skin) is processed into oil and powder from which the avocado Perseose found in our products is derived. » additional information from the formulation charter.
Composition and production
Plant extraction processes
We use molecular distillation - a non - chemical process that separates and concentrates the premium components of the oil - and biotechnologies such as enzymatic engineering, which replaces chemical substances.
Reducing our consumption
Since 2024, for 100 units produced, we have reduced our electricity consumption by 4.3% and water consumption by 8.6%.
Renewable energy supply
Since the end of 2022, our site has been powered by 100% renewable electricity and an increasing share of gas from renewable sources. Thanks to these developments, the share of renewable energy used on the site reached 69.7% in 2024, compared to 41.8% in 2023 and 36% in 2019.

That’s why, since 2020, we have been developing bulk solutions in pharmacies to provide a tangible alternative to single-use plastic bottles.

To support you in consuming more responsibly, without compromising safety or enjoyment.
63% of French consumers want to be able to buy their everyday products in bulk. With our bulk machines available in about twenty pharmacies in France, Mustela care products can now be easily refilled. From the third refill, the environmental impact of your product is significantly reduced. Together, let’s encourage reuse and make zero waste a reality.
Optimization of routes and reuse of cardboard
GEODIS the storage warehouse is located less than 800 meters from our factory (ISO14001 certified – environmental management standard).
Did you know? The cardboard boxes in our Mustela production plant have a second life! We reuse them to ship some of your orders instead of our old big new boxes. It is a solution aimed at better reusing what already exists and reducing our impact. Since January 2024, this has saved +1 metric ton of cardboard.
