Mustela tests loose product selling

Offering your favorite product in a refundable deposit, reusable glass container is the trial Mustela is launching today. Find out all the details about this operation, which is part of the continuation of our environmental and social commitments.
Mustela is trialing selling products loose, a new, more environmentally-friendly way of distributing products using a reusable glass bottle. One step closer to zero waste!

One step closer to zero waste

We are launching a loose product selling trial, i.e. products that have not been previously packaged. The idea behind it? Going even further in eco-designing our products and in particular reducing packaging

This more environmentally-friendly way of distributing is part of a circular economy approach and makes it possible to offer an alternative to plastic bottles.

How does the trial work?

A refundable deposit bottle called “Reviens” (Come Back)

We chose a refundable deposit system with a bottle with an evocative name: it’s called “REVIENS” (COME BACK)! This system still guarantees the same quality and safety as the other Mustela products which come in packaging.

How does it work?

  • A reusable glass bottle is available in sales outlets.
  • The customer places the bottle in the loose product dispensing machine and fills it with the selected product.
  • After using the product at home, they are invited to bring back the empty bottle. If they want to buy one of the products again, they will be given a clean bottle, otherwise the deposit will be refunded.
  • The used bottles are washed and reused.

Two products are available

The fragrance-free, vegan and ORGANIC-certified Cleansing Gel for the whole family, with ORGANIC olive oil from Nîmes olive groves.
The Gentle Cleansing Gel

Loose dispensing, a growing distribution method

Mustela loose products, a step in a long activist approach

Trialing loose products is part of Mustela’s environmental commitments.

An activist social responsibility approach for 15 years

For 15 years, we have taken a responsible and committed approach to minimizing the impact of our products on people and their environment, with tangible results. Since introducing our ecodesign policy in 2010, we have saved:

  • 145 metric tons of plastic,
  • 65 metric tons of cardboard,
  • 100% of our bottles are recyclable in France.

The B Corp label in 2018

In 2018, Mustela was the first French skincare brand to be certified B Corp. This pioneering and demanding international label is awarded to companies and brands looking to have a positive impact on society and the environment.

2030 carbon neutrality target

In 2019, at COP 25, the United Nations climate conference, Mustela made a commitment alongside 500 B Corp-certified companies and brands around the world to contribute to global carbon neutrality by 2030.
